What an incredible game. This has quickly become one of my very favourite entries of the jam. The presentation is excellent in how the paintings and music work with the story, how the figurines move and "act" in the set, and the writing is absolutely superb. The layers of subtle detail and interplay between Elodie and Grace is completely enthralling from start to finish. This captures the complicated maid x mistress dynamic more than anything I've read. Really, really incredible. Very excited to read more of your work.

Thank you so much for your kind words. ☺️ It was very important to me that I represented the maid and mistress dynamic faithfully. I made sure to read Kaoru Mori‘s Shirley before I started writing.

such an excellent narrative style! I thought the prose was really incredible, and the use of small ceramic models was so charming and really added to the whole experience for me!

I loved the ways that Grace would poke and prod throughout, and the repetition of chapter 1's was a really stylish way of laying out each iteration of this charade. Really excellent work!

Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed Grace’s poking and prodding as much as I enjoyed writing it.

this is literally everything to me, idek what to say. i would love any kind of recommended reading list for stuff that inspired you or is similar to how you did the prose here. i enjoyed it IMMENSELY and i think this is one of my favorite things from the jam so far. 10000000/10

Thank you! I can tell you that Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla and Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw both influenced how I approach gothic fiction. But, if you want to read more about Elodie in particular, I have good news—Da Capo is a prequel of sorts to a collection of short stories I wrote:  https://samlewis.org/stories/thebell/

I'm such a big fan of the way the narrative is presented! Such a brilliant concept that is brilliantly executed, I was really invested in where the story was going and frustrated (in a good way) by the unreliability of the narrator. Also, the use of dolls as sprites seems like such a simple decision but it adds so much to the story, emphasizing how artificial the whole charade is.

Thank you! Elodie, unreliable? Surely you jest! The choice of sprites was actually the first decision I committed to, even before I had a story concept. I’m glad they had the desired effect.

Not at all I expected in a good way. I was impressed by the presentation, and the “Chapter 1”s are such a neat touch since they let the story unfold in a unique way. The power dynamics keep reversing on each other too.

I hope more people play it.

I’m so glad! I took a gamble on the “Chapter 1” gimmick, and I’m pleased you enjoyed it. I loved writing the subtle power play between Elodie and Grace.

this was a fascinating idea and i think you delivered brilliantly on it!! you really captured the struggle of grasping, then confronting, elusive memories from childhood, and the farcical nature of roleplay when the participants are not quite connecting. this was awesome!!

Thank you so much! Yes, Elodie is struggling with the question of how to pin something down without poking holes in it, isn’t she?
